Rugunda Rubbishes Rumors on Aponye Food Contract

Prime Minster Dr Ruhakana Rugunda has distanced himself from all social media rumors linking him, the President and a First Lady to the contract that awarded to Aponye Uganda Ltd to supply the Covid19 relief food.

In a statement released last night, Rugunda described as false, the claims of influence in this contract award.

“Neither the First Lady nor HE the President contacted me about Aponye or any other company to supply posho and beans. Therefore, I dismiss these fabrications,” he said.

This followed the arrest of four officials from the office of the Prime Minster for ignoring bidders with lower prices and awarding contracts to those with higher prices.

Those arrested and currently under investigation include Christine Guwatudde the Permanent Secretary in office of the Prime Minster, Martin Owor the Commissioner disaster preparedness, Joel Wanjala the assistant Commissioner Procurement and Fred Lutimba the Commissioner in charge of disaster Management.

They were arrested by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit on orders of the President to investigate alleged irregularities in Food procurement process.
