Lawyers Rush to Court to Secure MP Zaake’s Release
Lawyers from Kiiza and Company Advocates have filed an application before Nakawa magistrates court seeking unconditional release of Hon Francis Zaake Butebi, the Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament.
The application is followed by an affidavit sworn by Marvin Saasi, a friend to the legislator who narrated how his colleague was arrested.
Ssasi says Zaake was arrested on 19th April 2020 by policemen and soldiers who surrounded his home.
He says he was on the phone with the MP during the arrest.
Since then, Ssasi says Zaake has remained in detention at Special Investigations Unit Kireka which is within court’s jurisdiction, but hasn’t been brought before courts of law
“The continued detention of the applicant by the respondents is unlawful.” he adds.
Hon Zaake was arrested Sunday last week on allegations that he acted against presidential directives issued to prevent COVID 19 pandemic when he distributed food to residents of Kiwawu and Buswabulongo in Mityana municipality.
