Businessman Abid Alam’s Bail Application Flops
Hearing of the bail application of City businessman Abid Alam Muhamood failed to kick off as scheduled yesterday before Buganda road grade one Magistrate Ketty Joan Acaa.
While court was set for the heating, the Prisons Authority did to produce the accused in court as per the production warrant
In their explanation on why the applicant wasn’t in court, Prisons authorities said they did so in respect of Ministry Health directives against of social distancing
Abid’s lawyers asked court to entertain the bail application via Zoom technology so that a laptop can be connected at Kitalya Prison to coordinate with video conferencing equipment in the court room.
The magistrate in response, issued a fresh production warrant directing Kitalya Prison to produce Alam in court on 4th May 2020
The suspect was arrested 2 weeks ago on his way to Mattuga and produced before Buganda road where he was charged with offences of conspiring with 4 police officers to defeat the course of justice.
It’s alleged that on 8th April 2020, police officers released confidential information in Police case file number CRB 234/2020 to Mr Alam.
