More Restrictions Expected as Museveni Holds 4th National Address on Covid19

President Yoweri Museveni is later today, Tuesday expected to unveil more stringent measures to protect the country against the rampant Covid19 disease, which is slowly permeating the country.

Uganda’s Covid19 cases yesterday jumped from one to nine in about 24 hours, heightening fear among citizens.

The 8 new cases according to Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, are Ugandan nationals who travelled back from Dubai, UAE aboard Ethiopian Airlines and Emirates flights on 20th and 22nd March.

President Yoweri Museveni has so far held three national addresses in which he among others shut down all schools, places of worship, bars and other entertainment points as well as other social and public gatherings.

On Sunday the president went a step further to announce closure of all the country’s borders which are now being patrolled by the armed forces, and also ended international travel.

Today, Museveni is expected to address the national once more, at 4pm in the evening.

During the previous address at the Nakasero State Lodge, Museveni said he was still undecided on banning all public transport, which he described as the “remaining danger” to the nation.

He however, advised Ugandans in the meantime to avoid public transport and to use it only when they must.
