UPL: Tooro United Chopped Off Points On Forfeiture

Tooro United’s struggles continue after losing points for fielding an ineligible player in their 1-1 StarTimes Uganda Premier League tie against Kyteume FC.

In a match played at Mighty Arena in Jinja on January 15^th, Tooro came from a goal down to pick a point from their hosts.

Kick-off was delayed as Kyetume protested the inclusion of the unregistered player but the referee ruled that the match would go on but under protest.

The player in question was identified as James Kasibante.

On Tuesday, the country’s football governing body ruled that Tooro would lose their point as it upheld Kyetume’s protest.

“It was stated in the referee’s report of SUPL match between Kyetume FC Vs Tooro United FC played on Wednesday 15th, January 2020 at The Mighty Arena-Jinja, that Tooro United FC among others fielded an ineligible player in the names of James Kasibante,” reads part of a statement from FUFA.

“The allegation was premised on the fact that the aforementioned player had no license for the match, making him ineligible to play against Kyetume FC on the above-mentioned match day.”

Tooro United, therefore, lose the match by forfeiture in accordance with Art. 19 (19) of the FUFA Competitions Rules which establishes that “A Club that fields an ineligible player shall lose the match by forfeiture to the opposing team,” the verdict from the CDP reads.

On January 7th, Tooro once again lost another match by forfeiture when they failed to raise a team to play visiting Onduparaka FC and the game was eventually awarded to the visitors.

The forfeiture sees the club formerly known as Soana drop to 15th on the log with just a point above bottom side Proline FC after 18 rounds of matches. Tooro’s next game will be played on January 28^th against red hot URA FC at the St Paul’s grounds in Fort Portal.
