Kasanda: Police Boss Misses Stray Dog, Shoots Boy in Operation

The officer in charge of Bukuya police post, in Kasanda district is on the run after shooting and killing a teenage boy, while attempting to kill a vicious stray dog.

The officer on the run has been identified as ASP Franco Obbu who has been commanding the police post.

According to Police spokesman Fred Enanga, the incident happened on Tuesday at around 6pm at Bukuya town council.

“The territorial police in Wamala region is investigating an incident where Patrick Manihiro, a 13-year-old, male Juvinile and a pupil at Bukuya primary school, was accidentally shot and killed by a stray bullet,” Enanga said.

He says officers at the police post responded to a distress call about an aggressive dog that was threatening to attack and injure residents.

“The officer confronted and fired at the vicious dog but unfortunately missed it and the stray bullet caught the victim killing him instantly,” said Enanga

“The suspect dropped the gun and escaped from the scene. A serious manhunt is ongoing,” he added

Enanga says the officer should have handled the matter in a better way and thus urged him to come out of hiding and hand himself in.

The officer’s family and friends have been also being cautioned not to harbour the suspect but instead report him to Police.

Meanwhile the inspector General of Police Okoth Martin Ochola has extended his condolences to the grieved family.
