Akena Revealed His Killer Before Death – Witness Tells Court
Robert Mutebi a former security guard at Nakasero Hospital has told court that before his death, social worker Keneth Akena identified his killer.
Mutebi was the third prosecution witness to testify in the case in which businessman Mathew Kanyamunyu and his girlfriend Cynthia Munwangari are charged with the murder of Akena
In his testimony, Mutebi revealed that on 12th November 2016 while on duty at Nakasereo hospital, he saw Kanyamunyu and Munwangari as they brought in Akena who was in a worrying health condition.
That on arrival, he says, he assisted in carrying Akena inside the ward and that Kanyamunyu informed them that he had been shot.
Later on, he says, he and his colleague Moses were called in by a nurse identified as Percy, to come and listen to the allegations being made by the bedridden Akena.
“On entering the ward, we heard the patient saying that a man who had brought him and the lady in the car putting on the short skirt were the ones who shot him. He asked us not to let them go before calling in his family and Police. He repeated it three times,” the witness said.
Mutebi says a one Allan, the supervisor of all nurses at the hospital upon hearing this, ordered the security guards not to allow the duo to leave the hospital premises before Police’s arrival.
“I took over Emergency Parking while my friend Moses Ecolas went to the Doctor’s parking”
While guarding their posts, Mutebi says they later saw a white Land Cruiser coming in being driven by a man who was later handed a Pistol and a laptop bag by Kanyamunyu.
On being asked by state Prosecutor how he managed to see a pistol being taken out of Kanyamunyu’s car, he said in the parking yard there were over ten lights which enabled him to see clearly.
Having witnessed all this, Mutebi says he decided to go and report to Wandegeya Police as he left his fellow guard Asiimwe on guard with instructions not to allow the two accused persons to leave.
Other witnesses who testified in court yesterday included Dr Michael Lukoma who supervised nurses on the fateful night as well as Kigonya Victor, a Doctor who received Akena at Univic Medical center Kira road before being referred to Nakasero
Justice Steven Mubiru adjourned further hearing of the matter and cross examination of the witness to today, Thursday.
