Chelsea cleared to buy players in January transfer after winning appeal

Chelsea are now free  to  sign players during the January transfer after their appeal against a transfer ban imposed by FIFA was reduced by half by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The court said they reduced the ban after finding Chelsea guilty of breaching two of its regulations on player transfers but for a significantly smaller number of players.

The London club was in February given a two-window transfer ban and FIFA also rejected their appeal against the punishment ensuring Chelsea served the first ban in the summer but appealed again before the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport found that Chelsea had violated the rules to only a third of the violations which it said was a significantly smaller number of players.

“In addition, the violations of other Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players rules were found to be less serious than those attributed to Chelsea by Fifa.”

The court also reduced the fine for the London club from 600,000 to 300,000 Swiss francs (£230,000).
