UPL: Wakiso Giants face the reality as Express beats them hands down

Newly promoted StarTimes Uganda Premier League team, Wakiso Giants on Saturday faced the reality as they were thrashed by struggling Express FC at their own fortress in Wakiso.

Coming into the game, the moneybags had not been inflicted with such a heavy defeat but the Red Eagles proved a hard nut to crack beating them hands down.

Disan Galiwango opened the score for the visitors in the 13th minute when his shot was deflected by Yasin Mugabi, the Wakiso Giants goalkeeper to send the travelling fans into frenzy at the Wakissha Resource Centre.

Frank Kalanda was also on the mark, 13 minutes later when he scored, off a Frank Ssenyondo assist to take the game beyond reach but matters were not yet over for the Purple Sharks.

With 23 minutes left to the final whistle, Frank Ssenyondo put the last nail into Wakiso Giants’ coffin with a third goal that ensured Express got their fourth win of the season but on the other side, the Purple Sharks suffered their heaviest defeat since joining the FUFA Big League.

The loss was so heavy that the newly-promoted side sacked their head coach, Kefa Kisala.

Express FC are now 8th on 13 points, the same as Wakiso Giants who are 11th on the 16 team log.

Vipers consolidate lead

In Jinja, Kitende based Vipers Sports Club needed a late minute goal from midfielder Bobosi Byaruhanga to ensure their maintained their lead at the top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League after taking maximum points off Busoga United in a game played at the Mighty Arena.

In other games, Bright Stars finally won a game on the road when they beat West Nile side, Onduparaka FC, one nil in a game played at the Njeru Technical Centre on Saturday afternoon.
