UPL: Vipers stretch lead at summit as BUL falter in Arua

Kitende based Vipers Sports Club extended their lead at the top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League on Tuesday when they tipped struggling Wakiso Giants one-nil in a game played at St.Mary’s Stadium.

Despite missing a number of chances throughout the game, it was Fahad Bayo who saved the day for the Venoms with a 30th-minute goal off a neat service from Bobosi Byaruhanga that Bayo made no mistake putting the ball past Yasin Mugabi, the Wakiso Giants goalkeeper to send the filled to capacity St.Mary’s stadium into frenzy.

The hosts created a number of chances but they will have themselves to blame for not putting them away as Mugabi was on several occasions the savior for the Purple Sharks.

For the visitors, they too had a fair share of the chances but they all went begging.

The new league entrants could have bagged an equalizer towards the end of the game thanks to a Vianey Ssekajugo belter but the assistant referee flagged him down for being offside and the goal canceled despite the scorer being clearly onside.

At the end of the day, Vipers won one-nil and ensured they extended their lead at the top of the 16 team log to 30 points, six ahead of second-placed BUL FC.
