Njeru land row: Gen Otafiire tables papers to prove ownership of ‘government land’

The Minister for Justice and Constitutional affairs Maj. General Kahinda Otafiire has bowed to the directive from the speaker Rebecca Kadaga and tabled to Parliament all documents detailing how he acquired government land housing Njeru Stock Farm in Buikwe district.

Minister Otafiire who presented his documents on the floor of Parliament on Thursday night, dismissed claims that he had grabbed government’s land at Njeru but rather bought it from two individuals; the late Fredrick Kato and Christopher Lule.

After a heated Parliamentary debate on Wednesday Otafiire was accused of allegedly grabbing the government’s land that houses the Njeru Stock farm in Bukaya village in Buikwe district.

Otafiire explained how he acquired the land in question saying he bought it from Kato and Lule hence he wants government to immediately vacate his land that he acquired rightfully.

Among the documents that he tabled is a copy of certificate of title, sale agreement copy, a judgement of the Buganda lukiiko on the land dispute and copies of letters of administration.

But some legislators led by Budadiri west legislator Nathan Nandala Mafabi said the documents tabled by the minister are fake and need to be scrutinised.

The legislators also pinned the minister for failing to explain how the land was transferred from government into his name.

Otafiire said the government doesn’t have any title of the said land.

Kadaga said the documents will be scrutinised after which she will give her ruling.

The 1,099 –acre farm located at Bukaya West village in Njeru municipality, is one of the government’s farms managed under the National Animal Genetic Resources Centre and Data Bank.

However, more than 504 acres have been illegally acquired by individuals.
