Byanyima hits back on twitter after son, Anselm, is referred to as a “girl”

Winnie Byanyima has hit back at a twitter follower who referred to her son, Anselm Besigye, as a girl.

The follower appeared to have made the comment in jest after Anselm, who spots dreadlocks, was photographed with Byanyima and her father Dr Kizza Besigye during a function in which Byanyima officially took over as executive director of UNAIDS in Geneva.

She was responding to someone who goes by the name TAVi_D’Fish who asked: “So how is your daughter doing?”

Berghounzer Michael wrote: “I think people should leave your son alone!!! We all make choices in life!!!
This is not the first time Byanyima is defending her son over what she deems as unfair attacks on his personality.

In May 2017 after Anselm posted a photo on twitter puffing away at a cigar, Brian Bakampa twitted: “Dear Dr Kizza Besigye and Winnie Byanyima, your son Anselm looks terribly ugly and embarrassing with dreadlocks and now a cigar.”

Byanyima tweeted back: “That’s fine too. He is 17.”
