Assessors to Advise Court on Fake Pastors Accused of Murdering Car Driver

High court judge Vincent Okwanga has set November 22nd as the date on which assessors will advise court on whether to acquit or convict 8 men accused of murdering Isaac Kalanzi before robbing his Toyota Ipsum vehicle.

Its alleged that the accused, Serwanga Alex, Okongo Julius, Kaliisa Ronald, Masinde Michael, Serunjogi Geoffrey with 3 others on 21st May 2015 at Kajjansi, Wakiso district murdered Kalanzi Isaac and robbed his vehicle Registration number UAW 342W.

According to the evidence before court, two of the accused who had bibles in their hands, found Kalanzi at his work station of Namugongo stage and asked him to take them to Entebbe Airport because they had a fellowship in Nigeria

At Kajjansi, they asked him to drive them to their home and pick another pastor but on reaching there they murdered him

The judge today advised the assessors to simply look through the evidence in this matter and advise court

Being that they all suspects denied the charges of murder, aggravated robbery and conspiracy to commit a felony, Assessors have to look into their alibi, as they claimed that by the time the offense was committed they were under police custody

The Assessors are lay people without legal background, appointed by court to follow the case from the beginning to the end until its conclusion before coming up with their unbinding opinion

Assesors advise court to either acquit or convict the suspect(s) depending on his or her evaluation of the evidence presented in court.
