Mobile Money transactions between MTN and Airtel normalize

Transactions between MTN Uganda and Airtel subscribers have normalized, according to a statement from both companies.

The statement jointly signed by MTN Uganda Chief Executive Officer Wim Vanhellepute, and Airtel Managing Director VG Somasekhar states that “customers can now send and receive money across both networks”.

Last week, the telecom giants announced a temporary suspension of mobile money services between both networks after interruptions in their systems.

This is after unknown hackers broke into the system of Pegasus Technologies before taking off with an unspecified amount of money belonging to several companies including banks and telecoms.

Pegasus Technologies is the company that translates money from banks into mobile money transfers between banks and telecom companies.

However, the latest statement from both companies’ states that the system has since resumed.

“MTN Uganda and Airtel Uganda wish to inform the public and their customers that Mobile Money services between the two networks have resumed,” the statement reads.
