Former Presidential Aspirant, now nominated MP

Yesterday the returning officer for Kalungu district declared Mugerwa Timothy a duly nominated candidate for Kalungu West.

Mugerwa, a former Presidential aspirant, emeritus President of the African Youth Union, and a renowned environmentalist is battling Joseph Ssewungu who is seeking a third term on National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket despite promising voters not to seek re-election.

Ssewungu while seeking a second term promised voters that he would not seek a third term.

Ssewungu also vowed never to leave his party the Democratic Party (DP) and roared to die its member just like his father.

However, the DP stalwart would later switch to the newly formed NUP, abandoning his old party.

Mugerwa’s campaign message is built on transformational leadership of the 21st century, sustainable development, and lobbying for his constituents. Mugerwa says the current leadership no longer meets the needs of the 21st century.

Mugerwa, an environmental activist withdrew his Presidential bid in August despite getting nominated and being cleared by the Electoral Commission.

Mugerwa was among the over 50 people eyeing incumbent Yoweri Museveni’s seat but says after consultation with different stakeholders, he decided to abandon the race and rally behind National Unity Platform’s Robert Kuyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine.
