Kisoro Man Who Butchered 4 Family Members Hands Self to Police
A man in Kisoro district who hacked four members of his family including his parents to death has handed himself over to police.
Gerald Ndikumukiza, 28, yesterday took himself to police saying he feared he was going to be lynched by residents.
On October 24th, the suspect and resident of Kageyo village in Nyarubuye sub county used a machete to murder Mujawimana Maserina, 26, Sebitama Deogratius, 80, Nyiraguhirwa Bonconsira, 75, and Nyiramahoro Joan 20.
Upon being questioned by police, Ndikumukiza admitted to the crime and said he decided to kill his family because they short-changed him on family land.
He claimed he was unhappy because he was given land on a steep slope.
The Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate says the suspect confessed to have killed the four after being given land which was on a steep slope by his parents.
“He said the land he was given couldn’t be cultivated or used to build a house,” Maate said.
“He said this was the reason he went out to work and get money to buy his own land. But when things didn’t work out as he hoped, he came back and out of anger, murdered them.”
