Kiplimo, Nanyondo Head to Czech Republic for Golden Spike 59th edition

On Saturday 5th September, the Ugandan government cleared two athletes in Winnie Nanyondo and Jacob Kiplimo to travel to Ostrava, Czech Republic ahead of the Golden Spike international competition.

The World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting will host its 59th edition on Tuesday, 8th September at Ostrava City Stadium with over 2500 spectators expected to turn up for the event.

Jacob Kiplimo will be competing in 10,000m and the Emil Zartopek memorial 5km while Winnie Nanyondo will participate in the 1500m.

The 2017 IAAF World Cross Country Junior champion Kiplimo, who also won bronze in 2016 at the World U20 Championship in Poland, will therefore be aiming for gold at the international event.

Nanyondo who won bronze in 800m at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and finished 11th last year at the World Championship in Doha will also take on World Record holder Genzebe Dibaba, Olympic Champion Faith Kipyegon and United Kingdom’s Jemma Reekie in the 1500m.

Sprints, hurdles and middle-distance events will also feature on the programme which was rescheduled from its original date of May.

The competition will have a relatively full schedule of events, featuring domestic stars and other international athletes majorly based in Europe.
