FDC warns NUP against fronting MP Nabilah as Kampala Lord Mayor flag bearer
The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has warned National Unity Platform (NUP) against giving its Kampala Lord Mayor ticket to Kampala Woman Member of Parliament (MP) Naggayi Nabilah Sempala.
Last week, NUP called for new aspirants who wish to contest for the position under its flag, following the stepping down of MP Latif Ssebagala.
By deadline, only two aspirants had presented their expression of interest forms, with one of them being MP Nabilah Sempala and the other is a little known Suudi.
Speaking to Nile Post, NUP’s electoral management committee chairperson Mercy Walukamba confirmed the development and said that Nabilah, is now a member of NUP.
Asked to comment on the matter, FDC spokesperson Semujju Nganda warned NUP against Nabilah Sempala’s candidature urging NUP to deal with her cautiously.
Semujju said, “We wish honorable Nabilah all the best but if she keeps playing politics the way she has been doing in FDC, then I want to feel sorry for NUP.”
“If Nabilah changes the way she plays politics, she can be a very good politician. But if she doesn’t, NUP should be careful,” Semujju added.
Semujju said FDC has always been rashly judged for mishandling the Kampala Woman Member of Parliament but her joining the National Unity Platform gives others a chance ‘to also feel her weight.’
In July this year, Nabilah Sempala was denied a chance to submit her expression of interest to contest for the Kampala Lord Mayor on the FDC ticket.
The FDC Electoral Commission chairperson Toremuka Bamwenda then told NBS TV that Nabilah Sempala was an ‘ imposter’ who didn’t even pick her forms from the party offices.
NUP is expected to vet Nabilah Sempala later today (Monday) alongside another candidate and announce their flagbearer this week.
