Uganda, especially Kampala, may be famous for its traffic jams and “party after party” lifestyle but nothing beats Ugandans for their love for food. Uganda is not only blessed with abundance in food, but we are also blessed with the appetite for it.

Every corner in every major town will have a food corner, a rolex stand, a local food set up with nothing but a bench, roasted Muchomo lining the streets of every town center from as low as Shs 500 shillings.

Kyaliwajjala like any other town centre has become notorious for street food from deep fried chicken, sausages, fries, chapatti stands, muchomo stands and so much more but a couple of men have rule the streets of kyaliwajjala towards Namugongo with their roasted of chicken stands. One of these is Freddy with his Eddy’s chicken stand.

As you approach the Kyaliwajjala trading centre from Naalya, Eddy’s is well positioned by the roadside next to Life Link Hospital.

He seems to deliberately send those stuck the traffic jam with the aroma that gets frustrated road users packing their car to order the chicken quickly.

I always wondered what made Eddy’s chicken so popular until I paid him a visit myself. There is something about a meal that has come off the fire and into your mouth especially if the aroma got you off your exercise walk.

After about 5 minutes of waiting for Eddy to dry out the chicken, I sit down to enjoy my meal. The chicken is nicely crispy on the outside but well done and tender on the inside, just the way I love it.

The spices are not overbearing, so you can taste the natural ingredients used in the marinade like onions, garlic and the famous Royco.

For a quick fix, for you who is stuck in traffic jam and starving….street food always makes a situation better.
