Masaza Cup: Buganda Kingdom Institutes Two Additional Committees

Minister of Sports, Leisure and recreation for the Buganda Kingdom Owek, Henry Sekabembe Kiberu on Tuesday named two more committees for the Masaza cup; the competitions probe committee and the rules and regulations review committee.

The confirmation was announced during a brief press conference held at Nican Resort Hotel gardens in Seguku off Entebbe – Kampala highway.

Former Uganda Sports Press Association (ISPA) president, Sabiiti Muwanga was appointed as the probe committee chairman while Uganda Premier League CEO, Bernard Bainamani is the new secretary.

Retired veteran sports journalist Fred Kiyingi Musisi, Rita Nampoza and Peterson Kayima Magoba are the three committee members.

Sports minister Ssekabembe outlined the need for the 2019 Masaza Cup review to reflect upon all the irregularities which will be put right prior to start of the 2020 edition.

“There are defects merited the attention of the sports ministry and organizing committee since they contravene the objectives of the Buganda Masaza Cup tournament and the brand. The five member probe committee will investigate the irregularities and report back within 30 days to ensure effective and efficient management of the tournament to the satisfaction of all the stakeholders,” he said.

The Rules and Regulations review committee has Bernard Bainamani as secretary with Frank Kyazze, Haruna Kyobe, Ruth Nalwanga, Dan Mwanje, Richard Kirabira and Festus Kirumira all turning out as committe members.

Despite the current COVID-19 country lockdown, Sekabembe and the Masaza Cup organizing committee promises to continue organizing and coordinating the competition via digital means.

The 2020 Masaza Cup tournament is earmarked for June but it’s fate will be determined by the health situation in the country.
