Rubanda: RDC Mediates Between Clashing NRM Aspirants

The Rubanda Resident District Commissioner Peter Rwakifari Kibondo has intervened to calm the political rivalry among National Resistance Movement (NRM) party aspirants in the district.

Rwakifari summoned all NRM flag bearer aspirants on Member of Parliament and LC5 chairpersonship seats on Thursday to a security meeting that was held at Volcano Hotel in Rubanda town council.

His intervention followed a row between the incumbent Rubanda East Legislator, who is also the Rubanda district National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairperson Hon Henry Musasizi and the incumbent district LC5 chairman Jogo Kenneth Biryabarema, who has already shown interest to contest against Musasizi.

Two weeks ago, Musasizi accused Biryabarema of defacing his posters in Ihanga and Kagarama in Bubaare Sub County.

Last week, Musasizi and his supporters arrested and handed to police one Julius Bishangwaho, a resident of Kyokyezo in Nyamweru Sub County, accusing him of defacing his billboard on the orders of Biryabarema.

Bishangwaho who was later released on police bond refuted the accusations saying that he was waylaid by Musasizi’s supporters on his way home.

Musasizi has also been accusing Biryabarema of stealthily training what he called hooligans to disrupt party elections by confiscating nomination forms. He also claims that Biryabarema is organizing a mission to kill Musasizi’s supporters.

During yesterday’s meeting, Gad Bukenya, one of the Rubanda west county MP aspirants and the incumbent Rubanda district woman MP Prosy Akampurira Mbabazi, said it was time for the clashing party members to iron out differences and stop fighting.

In the meeting, RDC Rwakifari condemned political bickering saying that there is no reason for aspirants with a common cause to start unnecessary fights, adding that there should be reconciliation because an election is not a do or die and people still need each other after the exercise.

Musasizi however never attended the meeting and when contacted by our reporter about why he failed to show up, he attacked the reporter, accusing him Musasizi angrily faulted the reporter for only focusing on controversial news stories.
