Ugandans Stranded in North America Return Home Next Month

Ugandans who were caught up in the United States and Canada by the Covid19 global shutdown finally have a chance to be fly back home.

Under the ongoing mass repatriation process which was ordered by President Museveni, the Ugandan embassies in the US and Canada, working with private travel firm Satguru Travel, have chattered a flight for Ugandans that wish to return home.

The travellers will have however to meet all the travel costs, and also prepare to undergo mandatory quarantine once in Uganda at their own cost.

In a communique, Ugandan Ambassador to the US Mull Katende revealed that the special repatriation flight will be operated by Ethiopian Airlines.

The flight, he said, will take from Dulles International Airport in Washington DC on Tuesday, July 14th, 2020 at 16.00 hrs.

“Ugandan Nationals in Canada, South America and the Caribbean would depart either on July 13th or 15th, 2020 on different flights. If you are registered with the Uganda Embassies in Washington DC, New York or Ottawa and are interested in departing the United States for Uganda, consider booking these flights now,” Katende said.

“Interested parties should verify that their passports and other documentation are current and valid for at least six months from today’s date. For one-way Uganda Emergency Travel Certificate please send an email to the Immigration Attaches in your area.”

The air ticket from Washington to Entebbe will be going for $1500 for the economy class.

The travellers have been required to take Covid19 tests from their current locations before heading to Washington.

“The Embassy is not able to waive this requirement for any interested traveller. Those in Canada and the Caribbean should check with their local authorities regarding where to obtain Covid-19 testing,” Katende said.
