Kabale’s Shs 23Bn Market Stalls

The reconstruction of the Shs 23 billion ultra-modern Kabale Central Market is behind schedule, officials have revealed.

The AfDB funded project under the MATIIP II Program was tendered to Chongqing International Construction, a Chinese company and work begun in December 2019

According the project clerk Hillary Tugeineyo, works now stand at 14.2 percent and not the projected 22.8 percent by this time.

He says works were largely stalled by the Covid19 pandemic which forced them to reduce the workers to only 65 from 130.

The projected he says has also been hit by other challenges like lack of materials and the weather.

David Wacha the site manager however says there is still home of finishing in time.

Emmanuel Sentaro Byamugisha the mayor Kabale Municipality while touring the works said the municipality was happy with the progress so far.

Once completed, the new market will have a medical clinic, solar lights, a day care centre, open market shades CCTV cameras among others.
