Uganda: COVID-19 Cases Rise to 89 as Kenyan Truck Driver Tests Positive on Sunday

The Ministry of Health on Sunday confirmed one new COVID-19 case bringing the total number of infections in Uganda to 89.

The case was confirmed out of 2,729 samples of truck drivers tested.

According to Dr Henry Mwebesa, Director General Health Services, “the case is a 39-year-old Kenyan male truck driver who arrived via Malaba. Efforts to track him are underway.”

All 201 samples from the community, however, tested negative for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, Dr Mwebesa announced that the COVID-19 case who was confirmed from the community on Saturday from Rakai district has been evacuated to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital and his family members are under quarantine.

Both Kenyan and Burundi truck drivers who also tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, Mwebesa said, have been returned to their respective countries.

A total of 2930 samples were tested for Coronavirus on Sunday.

Uganda has so far registered 52 COVID-19 recoveries and no fatalities.
