Nytil Reinstates Fired Security Guard Amid Pressure

Textile company Nytil has succumbed to pressure from politicians and the public and reinstated George Muyomba, a security guard who was fired for standing up against the company general manager.

Muyomba, a guard working with Pan African Carrier Uganda Limited was last week sacked after denying the company General Manager entry to the factory for failing to put on a face mask as per the presidential directives on COVID19 prevention.

This caused anger among Ugandans and labour unions which asked Nytil to pardon Muyomba and reinstate him to work.

On Monday evening Nytil through their Human Resource officer Nakweesi Joanitah wrote to Muyomba informing him that he had been re-instated with all his previous privileges.

“Following the termination, management has received pleas for lenience from workers’ union officials. Discussions have since progressed well resulting into the decision to reinstate you as an employee with immediate effect,” she wrote.
