President Yoweri Museveni yesterday had a conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The two according to the Premier’s office, discussed among others strengthening the relationship between Canada and Uganda, and the latest developments in the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Prime Minister and the President exchanged views about their respective national efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and protect the health, safety, and economic well-being of their citizens. The Prime Minister noted the importance of responding to the virus in a manner that protects the most vulnerable groups in society and upholds human rights,” the Prime Minister ‘s office said in a statement.

The office says Trudeau thanked President Museveni for Uganda’s help to repatriate Canadians seeking to return home during this crisis.

Uganda has been scheduling repatriation flights for foreign citizens that want to return home despite closure of her borders and airport.

One such flight for Canadian citizens departed last week.

Meanwhile, the two leaders noted the devastating economic impacts of the Covid19 pandemic for many countries and the importance of appropriate development financing to help countries bring back growth in key sectors.

“They discussed ways to continue strengthening the Canada-Uganda bilateral relationship and to advance shared priorities such as trade and investment, and international coordination to restore global economic activity.”
