Court Reinstates Jinja RDC Sakwa

Jinja High Court Deputy Registrar Fred Waninda has issued an interim order restraining the President’s Office and other government officials from blocking Jinja Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Eric Sakwa from accessing his office

In this ruling, the Registrar emphasized that nobody should evict or remove Sakwa from office or interfere with his job before the final disposal of the case in which the RDC challenges the manner in which he was kicked out of office.

Sakwa welcomed this ruling and vowed to continue serving the people of Jinja.

“I’m happy with the ruling and I am going to start from where I ended especially in distributing relief food.”

At court, Sakwa was in company of his lawyers Caleb Alaka, Evans Ochieng and Nyote David.

In his main application before the same court, Sakwa says it was unfair for Hajji Yunus Kakande, the President’s Office Secretary to interdict him without being given a fair hearing as per the rules of natural justice.

He adds that Kakande didn’t follow the required procedure while interdicting him since he didn’t get any directive from President Museveni who appointed him into this office.

He therefore asked court to quash the contents of the said letter and reinstate him back in office

On 8th May 2020, Sakwa received a letter from the secretary of the President’s office ordering him to step aside from his duties with effect from 4th May 2020.

Sakwa is facing charges of attempted murder and robbery before Jinja Magistrates court alongside two others

He was recently released on bail.
