Kabale Town Deserted as Masses Flee to Villages

Kabale town like many other urban centres around the country has been deserted.

The municipality has been known as a bustling hub of crossbred movement and entrainment especially in the evening hours.

But amid the ongoing national covid19 lock down, the town has gone silent.

Just a few people can be seen walking slowly, mostly women going to the market and few youth riding bicycles.

The police and army have deployed heavily in the town and on the outskirts to enforce a two- week nationwide lockdown in a bid to combat further spread of the deadly coronavirus.

On Kabale main road as well the Kigongo road as they were deserted as a few handful of people could be seen moving by foot while others on bicycles.

Safina Atuhaire, a vendor at Kabale central Market says even though the president allowed them to work, they have no customers because most of the town dwellers have fled to the villages.

Ronald Bifabusha the lower Bugongi municipal councillor says government should provide essential foods items to the needy families before they starve to death especially old people, people living with HIV and children headed families

The few people still in Kabale town are also adhering to the curfew, as many are seen rushing back home on sunset.

This is the same situation Rukungiri town and Kihihi town in Kanungu district.
