Covid19: FIFA Postpones U17, U20 Women’s World Cup Championships

The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) has confirmed postponment of the U17 and U20 Women’s World Cup tournaments to dates that are yet to be determined.

Just like all other sports disciplines, the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup tournament which was scheduled for 2nd to 22nd November in India this year but not take place as previously planned due to Coronavirus outbreak.

Uganda is among the six countries that advanced to the final qualification round vying to fill the three CAF slots for the final Championship.

Uganda is destined to play host to Cameroon on the 1st of May in the first leg of the final qualification round at the StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo.

The other two fixtures see South Africa taking on Morocco while Ghana plays Nigeria in double headers with aggregate winners advancing to the final tournament in India.

Five Stadiums; Guwahati, Kolkata, Navi Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Bhubaneswar were picked to host the Championship.

In other news, the U-20 Women’s World Cup event which was slated for August and September in Costa Rica and Panama has also been called off amid the global crisis.
