Covid-19: Five Ugandans Held Under Quarantine in Rwanda

Five Uganda nationals are under compulsory quarantine in Rwanda after they reportedly crossed to Rwanda from Kashasha parish in Bufundi Sub County, Rubanda District.

Peter Rwakifari Rubondo, the Rubanda District Resident Commissioner speaking to our reporter said that one man and four women illegally crossed through Ecuya forest and entered Rwanda before they were intercepted.

They were intercepted on Sunday this week.

Rwakifari, who also heads the district anti-corona task force in Rubanda district said that the five people had crossed to sell locally made baskets in Rwanda. They are detained in Mugahinda village, in Burera District of Rwanda.

He said they were arrested on suspicion that they had the novel corona-virus.

Rwakifari also revealed that the District task force is in connection with Rwandan authorities on matters how the arrested are being handled.

According to Rwakifari, all the five will undergo the mandatory 14 days of quarantine.

Uganda deployed soldiers along her borders with Rwanda, after several reports of Rwandans crossing into Uganda for illegal trade.

They would cross to Uganda through ungazzeted porous border points.
