Ugandans Warned on Spreading False Information About Coronavirus

Uganda Communication Commission (UCC) has called on Ugandans to stop sharing misleading information about Coronavirus.

In a press release the regulator says there’s been an increase in cases of misinformation on various digital platforms.

“Such conduct can cause disobedience against the law or lawful orders or incitement of violence against persons or property,” the commission warned.

UCC says whoever is caught creating, circulating and engaging in misinformation shall be apprehended for offending the Computer Misuse Act 2011, the data protection and privacy Act 2019.

“Members of the public are called upon to be vigilant and exercise due care to ensure all information created, posted, shared or forwarded is free from distortion of facts and complies with the existing laws of Uganda.”
