Sekidde Stars as Kyambogo Outwash MUST
Pepsi University Football League
Group A
Kyambogo University 4-1 MUST
Kyambogo University cruised to an emphatic 4-1 victory over Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) in the Pepsi University Football League on Saturday.
Robert Sekidde scored a first half brace as Mukwaata Peter and Adeele Tom bagged the other two goals for the hosts in a five goal thriller played at Kyambogo playground.
Mbarara University pulled one back through Agaba Lino’s late goal.
Mbarara’s fantastic spell of pressure earlier into the game saw Akemkwene Gift draw Kalyowa into a stop, before the hosts could scramble a corner away from inside the area.
13 minutes into the match, Kyambogo’s Ssekidde darted forward and found Tumwesigye in the box but the midfielder couldn’t find the target. Pressure mounted on as Oyedk had a close-range effort blocked moments later.
In the 28th minute, Mukwata broke the deadlock for the hosts as the scoring party was officially launched.
Mukwaata tapped in the rebound after the MUST shot stopper, Sunday Power Blick punched the ball back into the play, finding ‘lucky’ him un-marked to tap the ball home.
Four minutes after, Ssekidde doubled the lead for the hosts when he met Mukwata’s cross and fired home for the second goal.
Kyambogo could piled more misery on to the visitors when Sekidde returned on the score sheet to compete his brace.
Ssekidde’s second strike on the 32nd minute mark came from a brilliant interplay between Mukwaata and Ogwanga who crossed the ball and Ssekidde headed home the third of the day.
With ten minutes to the break, Adele Tom added his name on the score sheet with a half volley to the far post, thanks to Tugume Tanan’s donkey work.
MUST’s consolation came towards the climax when Agaba Lino dribbled in a counter attack and rounded off goalkeeper, Ivan Kalyowa, before shooting in an empty net.
After the results, Kyambogo leapfrogged MUST to the top of group A with a superior goal difference. Both are now tied on three points after two games.
Kabale University has three points as well while debutants University of Kisubi (UniK) are yet to register any.
