Museveni Considers “Other Drastic Measures” as Covid19 Patients Rise to 23

President Yoweri Museveni has hinted on introducing more sweeping measures to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus in the country.

Uganda has now registered 23 cases of Covid19, up from 18, yesterday.

The Health Ministry is still taking more tests mostly from the hundreds that returned from abroad that are still quarantined.

Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng revealed last evening that out of 227 samples tested, 222 tested negative for COVID19 while 5 tested positive for COVID19.

The Ministry earlier yesterday expressed concern about returnees who haven’t been tested or quarantined, and have managed to sneak into the rest of the population.

President Museveni this morning echoed this concern, and said this might necessitate more preventative measures.

“Although the number is growing, I am still happy to see that the majority of returnees are negative which means they don’t have the virus,” Museveni said.

“However, the worry is that the people who are positive had circulated in the population.

“…We may have to take additional drastic measures. I will keep you informed.”

According to the Director General at the Ministry of Health Dr Henry Mwebesa, as of Friday morning, three positive cases had been registered from the community; one from Iganga, one from Adjumani and another from Hoima.
