Coronavirus: Cops Warned on Brutality; Vehicles Allowed to Carry Guards, Pregnant Women

Uganda Police Force has ordered its personnel to remain “courteous” and “humane” while enforcing the partial lockdown over Coronavirus, warning “errant” officers face serious consequences for their actions.

The warning comes just a day after police and the military forces were caught on camera clobbering innocent pedestrians and vendors.

The brutality sparked wide condemnation, with activists urging restraint and holding violent officers accountable.

Police also clarified that vans are allowed to transport guards but must be disinfected and that factories can continue operations as long as Health Ministry guidelines are followed.

Medical personnel yesterday complained that they were unable to travel to work due to the suspension of public transport.

But AIGP Asuman Mugenyi said tuitional and construction vehicles are allowed to carry their workers.

Water vessels save for canoes, can be used for shopping and transporting pregnant mothers or patients.
