Queen of Katwe Teen Actress, Nikita ‘Gloria’, Dead

Nikita Pearl Waligwa, 15, who acted as ‘Gloria’, in Disney’s movie, Queen of Katwe, is dead.

Nikita succumbed to brain cancer on Saturday at TMR International Hospital in Naalya, a Kampala suburb.

The deceased was first diagnosed with cancer in 2016.

Impressed by her role in the Queen of Katwe movie, hundreds of Ugandans mobilised resources for her treatment on India.

In 2019, Nikita got another brain tumor in the same spot that she had it in 2016.

Her family said then that she was experiencing “excruciating pain.”

Doctors said the tumor was centered at the sensitive part of Nikita’s brain responsible for movement of the limbs, eyesight and speech.

Due to the illness, Nikita was unable to attend her classes at Gayaza High School.

Ugandans have since taken to social media to send condolences to the bereaved family, describing Nikita’s death as ‘devastating.’
