Police Arrest Cable Thief in Kampala
Police in Kampala is holding a man who was caught red-handed stealing telecom cables from the streets in the city centre.
The suspect in custody has been identified as Massette Wambere, a resident of Kawanda in Wakiso district.
According to Kampala Metropolitan police, he was netted by 999 patrollers at about 11:30pm on Thursday along Ben Kiwanuka street.
“Our officers while on normal Patrols along Ben Kiwanuka street, sighted three persons who were vandalising Uganda Telecom Cables in a Manhole, on seeing a Patrol car they runaway but one identified as Wambere Massette was arrested,” Police said
Upon arrest, the suspect was handed over to CPS Kampala with exhibits that included spades, helmets, saw for cutting, metals for opening manholes.
In a statement, police said that the suspect will be charged accordingly in court.
