Muhindo Stars as SC Villa Edge Past Bright Stars

SC Villa 2-1 Bright Stars 

Super second half substitute Benson Muhindo stole the show as Sports Club Villa recovered from a goal down to edge Bright Stars 2-1 in the Uganda Premier League game played on Friday.

Muhindo who replaced left back Yayo Lutimba, assisted Emmanuel Wasswa for Villa’s equaliser before his late strike guided Jogoos to maximum points at the Mandela National Stadium.

Bright Stars went into the driving seat 15 minutes into the game when Jamil Kaliisa raced onto Joseph Janjali’s through ball leaving Villa’s defenders Lutimba and Moses Kiggundu in a slumber before scoring past Saidi Keni for the opener.

On the hour mark, SC Villa restored parity when Emmanuel Wasswa headed in a Muhindo cross past Bright Stars custodian Godwin Buule Kiwanuka to put matters level.

In the 75th minute, Muhindo turned from provider to scorer as he netted the winner off a powerful brilliant header sending the home crowd into frenzy.

Muhindo, whose heroics lifted the 16-time league winners to massive win, was voted the man of the match walking away with UGX 100,000 prize money.

SC Villa went on to 43 points consolidating the 3rd position, six shy of KCCA in second while Bright Stars remained on 29 points dropping to 10th.

Villa’s next opponent is Tooro United on the 7th of March away in Fort portal while Bright Stars hosts Mbarara City four days before, at Kavumba.
