Minister Okello Hails Gambian Envoy for Investing in Uganda

The State Minster for Foreign Affairs Hon Okello Oryem has said Ugandan is now ready for all forms of investments, having worked hard to establish an enabling business environment.

Speaking at the celebrations to mark Gambia’s 50th independence in Kampala, Oryem said all foreign investors are welcome and will be supported as long as they abide by the Ugandan laws.

“Uganda is a very open society; we have a free economy and we’ll support you provided that you are peaceful, pay taxes and employ Ugandans,” he said.

At the event, Oryem applauded Mr Lee Sung Ho, the new Consul for Gambia in Uganda, who has set up massive investments that employ scores of Ugandans.

In his address, Mr. Lee revealed that ever since his appointment last year he has been able to mobilize over 40 Gambians staying in Uganda and he hopes to bring more on board.

“We have assisted a number of Gambians in Uganda to engage in trade with our sisters and brothers here in Uganda; encouraged them to come for tourism and experience the country’s beautiful nature and as well as invest in the country.”

Mayor for Nakawa Division Engineer Balimwezo Ronald asked all investors to emulate Consul Lee’s behavior by employing more Ugandans.
