Bobi Wine Arrested in Kasangati

Police have arrested and detained Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) ahead of his inaugural consultative meetings with the public on his presidential aspirations.

Bobi Wine was heading for the meeting in Gayaza from his home in Magere.

At Kasangati near the police station, the MP met a large major police roadblock where with heavily armed anti-riot police officers and spikes laid across the road.

After moments of standoff, Bobi Wine was removed from his vehicle and detained

when police blocked him and arrested him.

Teargas was fired to disperse his supporters.

Bobi Wine’s meetings, which are a constitutional requirement for presidential hopefuls, were cleared by Police and the Electoral Commission.

Police however, on Monday morning cordoned off Our Lady of Africa Play grounds in Gayaza, where the first meeting was meant to take place.

They ordered the organizers and those that were setting up public address systems to vacate the premises, arresting a few of them.
