Thousands Expected As Acholi Cultural Festival Nears

Acholi community under the auspices of their cultural institution, Ker Kwaro Acholi will be celebrating their cultural heritage and traditions.

Celebrated every year, the festival aims at observing and upholding culture of the Acholi people through a unique display of traditional music, dance, drama, cuisine and dressing style among others.

The highly anticipated festival that will be running under the theme “My Culture, My Strength,” is expected to attract over 25,000 people as compared to 10,000 in the previous editions.

While speaking during the Pilsner Lager sponsorship to the festival of over Shs60m at UBL headquarters in Luzira, Dan Kidega, the Special Envoy of the Paramount Chief of Acholi Chiefdom cited that the festival is one of the platforms to teach young people the Acholi culture.

“We will use the festival to teach our young people how the culture should be done, observed and respected as they come together to eat, drink, interact and dance during those three days.”

According to Kidega, the Acholi community are the most organized and responsible consumers of UBL products who do not abuse alcohol at any point.

Kidega also advised UBL to take advantage of the rapidly growing Acholi population.

“I urge UBL who have been with us for quite some time now to take advantage of the growing population of the Acholi and the fact that Gulu, the main center for Acholi is now attaining a city status, it is a great opportunity for you to dominate the market the more.”

While handing over the sponsorship, Edgar Kihumuro, the Brand Manger Pilsner Lager said that “Pilsner is about the celebration of life and this festival will bring together the people of Acholi in a unique celebration of cultural heritage.”

Some of the notable guests expected to attend this year’s event include Jacob Oulanyah, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Deputy Chief Justice Alphonse Owiny Dollo and Betty Aol Ocan, the Leader of Opposition in Parliament among others.

Ambrose Olaa, the Prime Minister of Ker Kwaro Acholi who is part of the organizers revealed during a press conference that preparations are in high gear and thanked UBL for the continued support towards the festival.

“We are grateful for this contribution which is a big boost to the festival and preparations that are currently ongoing.

It is only fitting that the King’s beer be part of this celebration organized by Rwot David Onen Acana II for the people of Acholi.

The three-day program will feature a lineup of traditional dances, music, games, health camp and exhibitions among others.
