Gun stolen from officer recovered near police post

Police in Kabarole district has recovered a gun that was allegedly stolen last week from the officer in charge of Hakibale police post one sergeant David Nkwame.
The AK47 rifle went missing on December 3, 2019, at the station, putting police on tension until it was recovered from a home of resident(names withheld) in Kibasi parish Hakibale sub-county Kabarole district.
According to Hamis Kayondo the Deputy Regional Police Commander for Rwenzori west the gun had 29 ammunitions at the time it disappeared but on recovery, one ammunition was missing.
However, police did not disclose the circumstances on how the gun was stolen from the officer on duty as investigations into the matter are still ongoing according to Kayondo.
Six people including the OC have since been arrested and detained at Fort portal main police station in connection with the missing gun.
Some of the suspects were arrested from Mubende while others were got from Kabarole district.
Security experts suspect that the gun was stolen to terrorize communities during the forthcoming festive season.
Kayondo said if the officer is implicated, disciplinary action will be taken against him over negligence of duty.
