PHOTOS: Star Link Bus Overturns on Masaka-Kampala Road

The smell of anger filled the air at Katende Town in Mpigi district along Masaka-Kampala on Tuesday as dozens of residents gathered on the roadside to have a glimpse of injured passengers after a deadly bus accident.

The driver of the bus belonging to Star Link Company carrying passengers from Kanungu to Kampala suddenly lost control before ramming into roadside barriers.

The bus crashed into a banana plantation. Its glass panel shattered on impact.

Traffic Police rushed to the scene to investigate the cause of the accident.

According to an eyewitness, the accident occurred at around 5:00am.

Police were yet to provide casualty figures when we posted this article.

But pictures obtained by ChimpReports show blood stains on the road along with mangled safety barriers.

Bleeding from the nose and mouth, a woman was lying helplessly on the ground.

The wreckage of the ill-fated bus was yet to be removed from a banana plantation.

According to the WHO Global status report on road safety, 2018 Uganda was among the countries with the highest traffic death rates estimated at  29 car deaths per 100,000 population.

The annual police crime report indicates that the number of people dying in road accidents went up in 2018 to 3,194 people from 3,051 deaths registered in 2017.
