NRM Leaders Back Voting By Queue

Kabale National Resistance Movement (NRM) delegates have endorsed the proposal of the party Central Executive Committee (CEC) of lining up during the forthcoming party primaries.

This was during the 4^th Kabale district NRM delegate’s conference that was held at Kigezi College Butobere in Kabale municipality.

In the meeting, the members also unanimously endorsed David Bahati the State Minister of Planning as the sole candidate for party chairperson in the district from 2021 to 2026.

Sheikh Kassim Kamugisha, the Kabale District NRM youth chairman moved the motion saying that as party leaders of Kabale, they needed to also support the CEC proposal.

Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, who sits on the CEC said the proposal of lining up in the primary elections was good for the party cohesion and that it would help in the fight against independent candidates.

He noted that in 1989 when he stood for the Kabale Municipality NRC seat with Robert Kitariko where voters had to queue up, he was able to beat his opponent, who accepted defeat.

Meanwhile, Dr Rugunda praised minister Bahati for his exemplary leadership in the district and for causing unity among the party members.

Dr Rugunda said NRM leaders need to avoid intrigue, which he said led to the downfall of the UPC government after Obote fired the then secretary general John Kakonge whom he replaced with Grace Ibingira and arrested five of his ministers.

He says that as NRM leaders there is need to safe guard the leadership of the country which they have.

On his part, Minister David Bahati expressed the NRM’s readiness to win the next general elections at all levels and also announced the party’s new plan to build district party offices, revealing that works will commence in August 2020.
