Cecafa 2019: Omollo Backs Kenya To Lift The Title

Kenya’s main target ahead of the 2019 Senior Challenge Cup will be retaining the title they won in 2017.

The tournament will be played between December 7th and 19th in Kampala Uganda.

Posta Rangers head coach Sammy Omollo has backed the defending champions Kenya to retain the title.

The Harambee Stars are already in camp in preparations for the regional’s oldest tournament, Omollo believes that head coach Francis Kimanzi and his selected players are up to the task ahead.

“Kimanzi selected the best players and are ready to deliver. It is always good when you go into a tournament as defending champions and also as pre-tournament favourites. That is a very encouraging factor,” Omollo said before adding.

“We simply have the upper hand. This ‘favourites’ tag is very good for Kenya and they have to exploit it to their advantage,” he added.

Kenya are in Group C and hosts Uganda are in Group A, the chances for the two teams to meet will only come in the knockout stage.

“Uganda’s foreign-based players have been doing good and are the ones who have made them look a stronger side every other time. So, with the exception of them, we have a very good chance of retaining the trophy,” he noted.

Kenya are in Group C alongside their great rivals Tanzania, Zanzibar and Djibouti.
