Uganda Airlines Naysayers Condemned

The Director General Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) Dr. David Kakuba has condemned the tendency by some Ugandans to talk ill of the recently relaunched national careers.

Mr Kakuba said such people, who use social media to eviscerate the national airline are non-developmental and don’t have their country at heart.

“We have had a number of individuals speaking about the Uganda Airlines, saying this and that,” said Kakuba during the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) 75^th anniversary celebrations held Saturday at the Source of the Nile in Jinja.

“Why can’t you accept development for once?” He wondered.

“This is our country’s development we are negative about because I assure you, when we get to receive our two Airbuses in 2020, our tourism industry and potential to attract tourists will not remain the same.

Kakuba went on to urge all Ugandans to embrace the budding airline

“I call upon all of us to embrace Uganda Airlines and give it all the necessary support it requires,” he said adding that the airline has a huge potential in providing jobs in different sectors including tourism.

ICAO, a United Nations agency is charged with checking and changing the principles and techniques of international air navigation and fostering the planning and development of international air transport to ensure safe and orderly growth.

Formed under the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation Montreal, Chicago in 1944 with a core mandate to help states achieve the highest possible degree of uniformity in civil aviation regulations, standards, procedures and organization, the agency has over 193 member states where Uganda is a member.

To commemorate ICAO’s milestone, Uganda through UCAA joined the rest of the World to celebrate the agency’s 75 years of existence in its operations.

The event saw Uganda unveil the ICAO Monument right at the heart of the Source of River Nile.

Hon Fredrick Ngobi Gume, the State Minister for trade, industry and cooperatives applauded ICAO for not only “connecting the world,” but ensuring global multilateral strategic progress for safety and air navigation, auditing States’ civil aviation oversight strengths in mainly the areas of safety and security.
