Thugs drug security guards, staff at fuel station, leave them staggering as they steal money

Unknown thugs over the weekend broke into the offices of UPT petrol station along Jinja Road in Bweyogerere, Wakiso District and made off with over Shs4m and other items.

The incident is reported to have happened at about 3:00am but it was not until after an hour that police officers on routine patrol in the area spotted UPET security guards and staff staggering around the premises, so they intervened.

Police in a statement claim that their officers at first thought the guards were drunk on duty “which is dangerous”

“They checked on them and they realised that they had been drugged.”

“Police notified management of UPET and rushed the two Pump Attendants and a security guard of Centenary Bank to Naguru hospital for treatment. The security guard was guarding ATM machine that is near the petrol station,” a statement from police reads in part.

The victims that are currently admitted at Naguru hospital are; Okello Francis, Akuo Richard, and Okware Richard.

“We have taken blood samples from the victims and we are to submit it to Government Analytical Laboratory for analysis,” Kampala Metropolitan Police claim in a statement.

According to one of the security guards of UPET, they were two but they had a local arrangement of one sleeping as another one is guarding. However, the colleague identified as Moses Balinda, who was meant to be on guard is currently missing.

“Police suspect he connived with the thugs to rob the petrol station. We are investigating a case of robbery.”
