Chairman NRM Ntoroko district Gruesomely murdered
The Police in Ntoroko is investigating circumstances under which two people, including the National Resistance Movement (NRM) district chairman, were attacked by panga-wielding men and murdered in Toro- Semuliki wildlife reserve.
Vincent Mugume and a bodaboda cyclist only identified as Wazadi were killed by unknown people. The two were travelling from Karugutu town to Kanara landing site, according to the Police.
The incident happened on Tuesday in the afternoon in Kandito.
“We are in shock because Mugume spent his day in Karugutu and in the afternoon, he decided to travel to Kanara to check on his family only to hear that he has been cut into pieces by assailants,” Didas Bagonza, a resident of Karugutu, said.
The assailants dumped the two bodies in the bush, about 10 metres from the Karugutu- Kanara road. “The Police, with the locals, retrieved the bodies and took them to Fort Portal Hospital for postmortem examination,” Bagonza said.
Ntoroko District Police commander David Katunda said they have detained two suspects as investigations into the murder continue.
“When we received the news of the murder, we visited the scene and retrieved the two bodies. We have arrested two suspects who are currently being detained at Fort Portal Central Police Station pending investigations,” Katunda said.
He said preliminary investigations into the killing point to land wrangles among family members. David Kor, the Kanara LC3 chairman, said the Police should carry out proper investigations and arrest all the suspects.
“Mugume has been representing Kanara town council in the district council. It is very sad that he has died in cold blood. I am happy the Police have moved fast to arrest some of the suspects involved in the murder,” Kor said.
He added that it was not the first time travellers were attacked in Toro Semuliki Game Reserve. Three months ago, a boy was killed at the same spot.
