Bobi Wine asks Court to Block sale of his Kamwokya Land
The leader of the People Power movement, Mr Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, has asked the High Court to declare him the rightful owner of a piece of land, which has been sold to a Gabonese investor.
In a suit filed before the High Court, Bobi Wine, who is also the Kyadondo East MP, sued John Lutalo who sold him the land and Pearl Investments Ltd, which has sold the same land to an investor closely linked to the Gabonese First Family.
Bobi Wine in his suit dated November 6, 2019, claims that he bought the land from Lutalo in 2011 at Shs25m.
The MP says Lutalo then promised to deliver him the land title if he paid the remaining balance of Shs25m.
“The plaintiff (Kyagulanyi) took possession of the land and developed it by erecting a storeyed structure thereon with general business. On March 11, however, the plaintiff received a letter from Pearl Hope Investments’ lawyers concerning the land, to the effect that his purchase was illegal and labelled him a trespasser,” Bobi Wine says in his suit.
The legislator says Lutalo later disappeared and did not bring the title as promised.
He says he has legal claim to the property as a kibanja holder since he bought it and does not know Pearl Hope Investments.
Bobi Wine’s piece of land is on Block 29, Plot 79 while the entire disputed land is on Block 213, measuring 26 acres.
He now wants court to put a permanent injunction on the land, stopping any activities by Pearl Hope Investments.
But the director of Pearl Hope Investments who are Jane Nanfuka, Katrina Nanfunka and David Senfuka, all based in the United Arab Emirates, claim that they have already sold the land to the Gabonese Investor, who wants to develop it and that Bobi Wine is a squatter.
Mr Senfuka, one of the directors, said they sold the land and they are ready to compensate the squatters, including Bobi Wine, so that they vacate.
The court has not set the date for the hearing of the case.
