AFCON 2021: Cranes Return From Ouagadougou, A Couple Of Players Missing

A contingent of the Uganda Cranes team that traveled to Ougadougadou for the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier against Burkinafaso safely touched the base at the international airport today morning.

Thr Cranes held on to pick a vital point against Burkinafaso, at the 4th August Stadium as they get their 2021 AFCON qualifying campaign underway.

The Cranes laboured for long spells of the game as Burkinabe dominated the game and pegged them back into their half.

Left back Joseph Ochaya showed terrific defending, clearing Jonathan Pitroipa’s shot off the line with goalkeeper Denis Onyango already beaten.

Emmanuel Okwi came close to scoring for the Cranes at the start of the game, his header off Farouk Miya’s corner rattling the cross before Burkinabe cleared their lines.

Twenty Five players were involved in the trip to Ouagadougou, under the tutelage of Headcoach Jonathan Mckinstry.

However only 23 players made the return trip to Kampala, ahead of their second qualification game against Malawi at the Mandela National Stadium on Sunday.

Electric winger Abdul Lumala and forward Alexis  Bakka were not part of the team that returned.

It remains unclear why the pair were not part of the team as both featured against Burkinafaso. Lumala played the entire 90 minutes, while Bakka made an entrance in added time for Emmanuel Okwi.
