UPL: KCCA Edge Stubborn Maroons At Luzira
The StarTimes Uganda Premier League reigning champions KCCA FC picked three vital points on the road after a 3-1 win against stubborn Maroons side at Luzira Prisons Grounds on Tuesday.
KCCA FC drew first blood through Mike Mutyaba who pounced on a spilled ball by the host’s shot-stopper Hannington Ssebwalunyo and tapped in goal with three minutes to the end of the first half.
However, Maroons drew the tie level through Solomon Walusimbi in the 69th minute to pile pressure on the Mike Mutebi coached side.
However, the Kasasiro Boys left it late through a penalty from Kizza Mustafa and a late header in stoppage time from Nigerian John Egbuonu Odumegwu to open his scoring account for KCCA FC.
Deep in stoppage time Odumegwu scored the third goal with a diving header with a minute left on the referees after Sekisambu’s well-crossed ball found him unmarked.
The visitors would have gone up in the early stages of the game but were let down by a couple of wasted chances from Simon Serunkuma and Sadat Anaku inside the opening 10 minutes of the game.
Skipper Charles Lukwago was also twice called into action to deny Steven Mukwala on two occasions in a space of five minutes to save his side.
KCCA FC are now fifth on the table with 13 points from seven games played in the league so far, they won on four occasions, drew once and lost twice.
Their focus will now switch to CAF Confederation Cup where they will face Paradou A.C on Sunday October 27th at Startimes Stadium, Lugogo in the 2nd preliminary round.
